South Georgia residents should prepare for a significant weather shift starting Friday night, as a strong cold front is expected to usher in a "true taste of fall" for the weekend. This change will follow an unseasonably warm Friday, with temperatures dropping sharply by nearly 17 degrees between Friday and Saturday, according to WALB’s First Alert Weather Team. Gusty winds and lower humidity will accompany the cooler air across the region.

Before the front arrives, Friday is predicted to be the final day of warm 80-degree temperatures across South Georgia. The forecast indicates mostly clear skies overnight into Friday morning with mild lows in the low 60s. Patchy fog is possible before 10 a.m. Friday morning, giving way to abundant sunshine and unseasonably warm highs in the mid-to-upper 80s during the day.

The strong, mostly dry cold front will move through late Friday night into Saturday morning. Residents will notice the front's passage as winds quickly shift to northerly directions and increase in speed. After midnight on Friday, behind the front, winds are expected to shift north-northwest, blowing 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts reaching up to 30 miles per hour. Little to no rain is anticipated with the front's passage.

Saturday will bring sunny and breezy conditions, with highs near 70 degrees, a considerable drop of nearly 17 degrees compared to Friday's warmth. Winds will be rather breezy, blowing from the north-northeast at 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts again up to 30 miles per hour.

Accompanying the cooler temperatures, a reinforcing push of drier air will cause humidity levels to drop significantly to 30-40% on both Saturday and Sunday. This lower humidity raises fire weather concerns for the region, despite the cooler air, as reported by WALB’s First Alert Weather Team.

Saturday night is projected to be the coolest period, with lows dropping into the mid-to-upper 40s by Sunday morning. Breezy conditions will persist, with a northeast wind blowing 10 to 15 miles per hour and gusts up to 25 miles per hour.

Sunshine will prevail on Sunday, accompanied by a northerly breeze and highs in the upper 60s. The cool trend continues into Monday with abundant sunshine, a cool breeze, and highs around 70 degrees. Tuesday will see slightly warmer conditions, with highs near 78 degrees, though mornings are expected to remain a bit chilly with lows in the low 50s. Highs are forecast to gradually rebound to near-average low 80s through the rest of the week.

Specific advisories are also noted for surrounding areas. A Wind Advisory may be considered for parts of the Florida Panhandle and southeast Alabama. Additionally, boaters on Gulf waters should anticipate a Gale Watch in effect from Friday night through Sunday, according to the forecast.
