Screams are anticipated once again at Grassy Pond Recreation Area in Lake Park as the annual Haunted Trail returns on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31. The event, known as one of South Georgia’s premier scare experiences, is expected to deliver more scares and interactive terrors than ever before. This return not only marks the spooky season but also celebrates the park’s complete return to operations.

The Haunted Trail's comeback in 2025 was successful, following a two-year hiatus caused by severe hurricane damage. Major Krystal Muddamalle, commander of the 23d Force Support Squadron, which operates Grassy Pond, expressed enthusiasm for the community's return. Muddamalle stated that the park serves as a "beloved community staple providing a wonderful space for connection, recreation, and tradition for families and neighbors of Moody AFB and surrounding communities."

This year's fright-filled path stretches 1.1 miles on the park’s West Trail around Lott Pond, establishing itself as one of the longest scare experiences in the region. The 23d Force Support Squadron is elevating the horror by reimagining the layout to include additional scare zones, a greater number of actors, and terrifying surprises. Guests will be challenged to navigate the water’s edge through a disorienting mix of strobing lights, dense fog, and newly introduced terrors at every turn.

Jeremy Burkeen, the manager of Grassy Pond, highlighted the positive reception to the Haunted Trail's return in 2025. Burkeen indicated that this year's event will reach a "new level" of intensity. To enhance the overall experience for attendees, new activities are being added for guests to enjoy while waiting to enter the trail. These include outdoor Halloween movie screenings and the presence of local food trucks. Burkeen affirmed the event's standing as one of the biggest and best scare experiences in the region.
