Jesse Raszewski, DO, USAR, is celebrating his one-year anniversary of serving the Valdosta community as the area’s first orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery. This milestone represents a significant expansion of specialized orthopedic care now available locally, offering advanced treatment options close to home for patients throughout Valdosta and the surrounding communities, according to Dr. Raszewski.
Over the past year, Dr. Raszewski has applied his specialized expertise to a wide array of foot and ankle conditions. His practice addresses issues ranging from injuries and arthritis to complex reconstruction and sports-related problems.
Dr. Raszewski's passion for foot and ankle surgery developed early in his career during his orthopedic surgery residency. He stated that he found this subspecialty "limitless and all-encompassing," leading him to pursue additional fellowship training to further develop his expertise in the field. In recognition of his potential, the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society selected him for their Resident Scholar Award in 2021, an experience that provided mentorship and solidified his goal of becoming a fellowship-trained foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon.
The intricate anatomy, complex biomechanics, and constantly evolving treatment options within the specialty appealed to Dr. Raszewski. However, his commitment to patient care extends beyond surgical skill, as he believes that understanding a patient is an essential component of successful treatment outcomes.
Dr. Raszewski attributes his approach to patient care to values instilled by his family while growing up in Glassport, Pennsylvania, alongside four younger brothers. He said his father taught him resilience, his mother taught him humility, and his grandparents instilled emotional intelligence, emphasizing the importance of communication, listening, and empathy. He believes that developing a strong rapport with patients is crucial for their treatment success, noting that his grandparents taught him how to listen, empathize, and reach an understanding.
Currently serving as a major in the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Raszewski has dedicated 11 years to military service. He said his military experience has complemented his orthopedic training, reinforcing the importance of remaining calm, prepared, and focused when caring for patients.
Dr. Raszewski stated that his first year serving Valdosta is not merely marking an anniversary. Instead, he views it as building the foundation for what he hopes will be a long career dedicated to caring for patients’ lower extremities in South Georgia.
