VALDOSTA – The Valdosta State Blazers women's soccer team achieved a significant Gulf South Conference (GSC) victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating the West Alabama Tigers with a decisive one-goal performance at the VSU Soccer Complex. This crucial win allowed the Blazers to extend their undefeated record in GSC play, solidifying their position among the conference leaders. The team's current season record stands at 4-1-1 overall, with an unblemished 3-0 mark within the GSC.
The Blazers wasted no time in establishing their advantage. The lone and ultimately deciding goal of the match came swiftly in the second minute of play. Ella Scerbo initiated the scoring opportunity, connecting with Sarah Hudson, who then found the back of the net. This early strike put Valdosta State ahead and set the tone for the remainder of the contest. Hudson, a native of Harriman, New York, continued her impressive offensive run with this goal, extending her scoring streak to four consecutive matches. She has now scored in every match this season except for one, proving to be a consistent and vital contributor to the Blazers' attack.
Defensively, the Valdosta State Blazers showcased a disciplined and resolute effort, anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Adrienne Cardona-Colon.
