DASHER – The Georgia Christian Generals football team suffered a 30-0 shutout loss against Citizens’ Christian Academy in Dasher on Friday. The Patriots established an early lead, scoring 16 points in the first quarter before securing the victory.
The Generals entered the game already facing challenges at the quarterback position. Senior starting quarterback Anthony Alaniz was sidelined due to a left leg injury sustained in the previous week's game. Freshman Brooks Mood stepped in as the starter for Georgia Christian. However, Mood found limited opportunities against a strong Patriots’ defense, completing two of six passes for seven yards. His time on the field also included a challenging interception where wide receiver Adrian Trejo made the catch, but the ball popped free upon impact with the turf and was caught by a defender.
Complicating the Generals’ game further, Mood himself sustained a right arm injury in the third quarter after taking a hard hit. Following Mood’s injury, senior Colton Hall took over at quarterback, though he did not attempt any passes. Senior Shane Vickery also played a couple of snaps at quarterback, completing both of his passes for a total of 12 yards.
Generals’ Head Coach Mike Johnson addressed the impact of the changes at quarterback on the team's strategy, noting the adjustments needed for Mood, who had not started at quarterback previously and for whom it is not his natural position. Johnson described the situation after Mood’s injury as a moment of "grasping for straws."
The Generals’ offense struggled to gain traction throughout the game. Junior Jack Coody, a key backfield presence, managed only nine yards on five carries.
Coach Johnson attributed the lopsided score to the physical dominance of Citizens’ Christian Academy. He stated that the Patriots are "big and physical" and play to their strengths, and the Generals were unable to match that level of physicality during the game. Much of this physicality was demonstrated by Patriots’ senior running back Tyson Crosby, who rushed for 186 yards on 17 carries, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion against the Generals’ defense.
As the game progressed, it became more intense, with Citizens’ Christian Academy incurring several personal foul penalties. Coach Johnson credited the senior leadership on his team, specifically mentioning Colton Hall, Lawson Bowling, and Carter Van Ausdall, for helping to maintain the Generals’ composure and prevent the game from escalating further.
The team is now looking forward to the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend for a period of rest, with practice scheduled to resume on Tuesday. Johnson expressed hope that the break will allow players to "nurse some injuries" before their next game. Georgia Christian is preparing to play Westwood on the road next week, aiming to move past this game and press forward.
