A passenger identified as Michael Blair was apprehended by Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers late Saturday night, October 24, in Lowndes County. Blair had fled on foot from a traffic stop initiated by GSP on White Water Road, located near Fender Road, and was wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants at the time of the incident.
The incident began around 8:15 p.m. when GSP troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was initially pulled over for reportedly failing to maintain her lane while traveling on White Water Road. During the subsequent interaction with law enforcement, the driver informed the troopers that Michael Blair, who was riding as a passenger in the back seat, had earlier directed her to turn around. This instruction, the driver stated, was given specifically to avoid a known law enforcement road check.
According to information released by the Georgia State Patrol, the passenger, later identified as Michael Blair, initially provided a false name to the troopers investigating the traffic stop. However, authorities were able to discover Blair's true identity. This critical discovery revealed that Blair was the subject of several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Following this revelation, Blair quickly fled the scene on foot, attempting to escape from the troopers. Law enforcement officers immediately began a pursuit. During the course of the foot chase, one of the GSP troopers deployed a Taser in an effort to apprehend Blair, but the device proved to be unsuccessful in stopping his flight.
Despite his efforts to evade capture, Blair was apprehended by troopers a short distance away from the original location of the traffic stop. Once Blair was taken into custody, he made a statement to the troopers, informing them that he had swallowed drugs, as reported by GSP. Due to this disclosure, Blair was promptly transported to South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) in Valdosta for an immediate medical evaluation. After undergoing assessment at SGMC, Blair was subsequently released for further treatment. The Georgia State Patrol has confirmed that specific details regarding the nature of Blair's multiple outstanding arrest warrants have not yet been released. Additionally, GSP has not specified the type of drugs Blair allegedly ingested. The agency noted that the investigation into the entire incident remains preliminary as of the latest reports.
