Valdosta’s Kappa Psi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., alongside its related family organizations—the Kappa Psi Sigma Philos, Kappa Psi Sigma Rhoers, and Kappa Psi Sigma Rhosebud Club—successfully hosted its inaugural March for Babies event on September 19. The collaborative effort, which saw the Kappa Psi Sigma Family partner with the Kappa Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., brought members of the community together on the campus of Valdosta State University near the National Pan-Hellenic Council Plaza to support babies and families throughout the region who are in need.
Through the collective generosity and dedicated support of its members, event participants, local families, friends, and community supporters, the Kappa Psi Sigma Family successfully raised a total of $1,355 for the March for Babies initiative. This significant contribution underscores the commitment of the participating organizations to improving outcomes for the youngest members of the community and their caregivers.
In recognition of their outstanding fundraising efforts, the Kappa Psi Sigma Chapter was acknowledged as the organization that raised the most money during the event. This notable achievement will be formally celebrated with the presentation of a trophy to the chapter by the men of the Kappa Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at a date yet to be announced.
Individual contributions were also a key component of the fundraiser's success. Soror Kelly Gamble was specifically recognized for raising $849, marking her as the individual who collected the most money during the March for Babies event. Her personal fundraising efforts significantly contributed to the overall total achieved by the Valdosta groups.
Beyond the fundraising, the event also featured a competitive run, with the top three overall finishers receiving recognition. Soror Adrian Blakeman earned First Place in the run. Philo Shantel Battles secured Second Place, demonstrating the active participation of the Kappa Psi Sigma Philos. Rhoer Christian Wright completed the top three, finishing in Third Place, highlighting the involvement of the Kappa Psi Sigma Rhoers.
The Kappa Psi Sigma Family extended its sincere appreciation to the Kappa Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as well as to all participants, generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and community supporters whose collective efforts were instrumental in making the inaugural March for Babies event a success.
Soror LaToya Stafford, who serves as the KPS March of Dimes chair, commented on the significance of the undertaking. According to Stafford, “This event was a meaningful opportunity to come together in service and make a positive impact.” She also expressed gratitude, adding, “We are grateful for everyone who supported our first March for Babies event and helped us raise funds for this important cause.” The chapter affirmed its pride in continuing to support initiatives designed to strengthen families and communities across the broader South Georgia region.
