Ky’Rei Turner, a Valdosta student, was recently selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), an esteemed organization that recognizes top scholars. The announcement, made by NSHSS Co-founder and President James W. Lewis, highlights students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment.

The Atlanta-based society emphasizes its role in connecting outstanding young scholars with resources throughout their academic and professional journeys, from high school to college and into their careers. According to NSHSS, members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership, indicating a sustained commitment to fostering student development and success. In other academic news, the University of Maryland Global Campus named more than 12,900 students to its dean’s list for the summer 2026 term, including a notable number of individuals from Valdosta and Ray City. From Valdosta, students recognized for their academic excellence are Tyree Davis, Braeden Grindstaff, Eddie Leger, Danisha Leger, Ashton Parker, Keith Robinson, Joshua Schoerner, and Nicholas Zsiga. Ray City residents Amanda Manint and Nathan Schipper also earned this distinction.

Separately, Georgia Southwestern State University, located in Americus, recognized 613 students on its Summer 2026 Academic Achievement List. This list included local residents, acknowledged for their scholastic achievements during the summer term. Eligibility for the Academic Achievement List at GSW requires students to meet specific criteria: they must have previously earned at least 12 credit hours at the university, been enrolled in 3 to 11 hours of courses during the summer term, and earned a 3.5 or higher grade point average for that period.
