Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is hosting its free Wired Up! TechXpo, an interactive community event designed to blend education, technology, and entertainment across multiple South Georgia campuses. The event, which began earlier this month, is set to conclude at the Valdosta Campus on November 7, offering residents a chance to explore career opportunities, engage with new technology, and enjoy family-friendly activities.
The Wired Up! TechXpo offers a comprehensive experience for attendees, combining educational showcases with shopping, food vendors, games, rides, contests, and giveaways. Wiregrass faculty, staff, and program representatives will be on hand to demonstrate the college’s various programs, certificates, and degrees through hands-on activities and interactive experiences. Guests can explore potential career paths, discover new technological advancements, and learn how Wiregrass Georgia Technical College prepares students for the contemporary workforce, according to the college.
A highlight of the Valdosta Campus event will be the Giant Musical Chairs Contest. Wiregrass Tech stated in a press release that the competition "is sure to bring plenty of laughs, energy, and friendly rivalry," with special prizes awaiting winners. Attendees are invited to participate in the oversized version of the classic game, adding a unique entertainment element to the Valdosta stop of the TechXpo.
Kelley Wetherington, director of campus life at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, emphasized the event's dual purpose. Wetherington stated that Wired Up! serves as an opportunity for the college to "open our doors and invite the community to experience Wiregrass in a fun and interactive way." She further explained that the goal is for families to enjoy the music, food, and activities, while also potentially discovering a program, career path, or educational opportunity they might not have previously known existed. The event aims to bring education, technology, and community together, demonstrating that Wiregrass offers something for everyone, Wetherington added.
The Wired Up! TechXpo kicked off on October 10 at the Coffee Campus, located at 706 W. Baker Hwy in Douglas. The event will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 24 at the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus, situated at 667 Perry House Road in Fitzgerald. The series of events will then conclude from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 7 at the Valdosta Campus, found at 4089 Val Tech Road, Bldg. 100, in Valdosta. Admission to all Wired Up! events is completely free and open to the entire community, Wiregrass Tech confirmed.
Beyond being a community festival, Wired Up! also functions as a platform for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations. Vendors are invited to participate and showcase their merchandise, products, and services directly to the community throughout the events. The registration fee for vendors is $30. Early registration was available through October 1, with late registration fees applying after that date. Final vendor registration closes on October 21, where applicable based on the individual event date. Vendors interested in participating or seeking additional event information can find details through the Wired Up! TechXpo page on the Wiregrass website. For specific questions or assistance regarding vendor registration, inquiries can be directed via email to [email protected].
This free, interactive TechXpo offers South Georgia residents a chance to engage with their local technical college, explore future possibilities, and enjoy a day of community-focused entertainment and education.
