Valdosta and Lowndes County residents are invited to a free, family-friendly community event this Saturday focused on encouraging civic participation. The “Don’t Boo, Go Vote!” Community Event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the open lot located directly beside the IGA Grocery Store on Lee Street and adjacent to Vallotton Park. This nonpartisan voter engagement event is being co-hosted by the Black to the Future Action Fund (B2F), in collaboration with The Other Georgia and Black Voters Matter, as a way to engage the community ahead of the general election on November 3.
Organizers shared in a press release that the event is designed to bring local residents together for a day of fun, foster community connection, and encourage engagement with the voting process. Attendees can expect a variety of free attractions, including food for families, complimentary candy for children, and musical entertainment provided by DJ “Big L.” Beyond the festivities, the event will also offer community engagement opportunities where attendees can learn more about the significant role voting plays in shaping their community and future.
According to B2F, the “Don’t Boo, Go Vote!” event aims to create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere, particularly for families. The organization highlighted that while having fun, participants will be reminded of the inherent “power of their voices” and the critical importance of actively participating in the democratic process. Furthermore, the press release emphasized the broader goal of ensuring that communities across the South Georgia region, with a specific focus on Black, rural, and historically underserved populations, are well-informed, actively engaged, and adequately represented in the public policy decisions that directly impact their daily lives.
One of the collaborative partners, The Other Georgia initiative, plays a specific role in these efforts. This initiative is dedicated to elevating the unique voices and addressing the priorities of communities situated outside metropolitan Atlanta. Its core mission, as described by organizers, is to guarantee that rural Georgia is not overlooked when it comes to the allocation of public policy resources, the creation of economic opportunities, and ensuring fair political representation at all levels.
With Election Day fast approaching on November 3, organizers are encouraging all residents of Valdosta and Lowndes County to proactively make a plan for casting their ballots. They also recommend that community members stay informed about the key issues affecting their local areas and actively encourage their family members, friends, and neighbors to participate in the upcoming election. For those planning to vote early, the window for early voting concludes this Friday. Residents who do not cast an early ballot will still have the opportunity to vote at their officially assigned polling places on Tuesday, November 3.
