The Valdosta Wildcats football team has completed the first five games of the 2026 season with a perfect 5-0 record, most recently securing a decisive 58-21 victory over the Stockbridge Tigers last week. This undefeated start includes a new school record for consecutive games scoring at least 52 points, a mark achieved in every contest so far this season. Following their first state semifinal appearance since 2020, the Wildcats are demonstrating strong motivation in their pursuit of the program's 25th state championship.

Valdosta’s offense has been particularly dominant, accumulating 280 points through five games—a total surpassing 58 other full seasons in school history. Averaging 56 points per game, the Wildcats currently hold the No. 2-ranked offense in Class 7A, trailing only Carrollton. The team also ranks fourth in the state for point differential at 41.6, with only Cartersville, Carrollton, and Commerce winning by larger average margins.

Seniors Deron Foster and Marquis Fennell have emerged as one of the most productive running back duos in Valdosta's storied history. Oregon State commit Foster has already amassed 725 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in just five games, significantly outpacing his junior season totals. He notably rushed for 171 yards and five touchdowns in the first half against Stockbridge. Foster has surpassed 100 rushing yards in every game this season, improving his yards per carry from 6.0 last year to 8.1. He is projected to finish the regular season with 1,305 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Stanford commit Fennell has also showcased his versatile talent, rushing for 559 yards with an impressive 11.2 yards per carry and nine touchdowns. He leads the team in both receptions with 31 and receiving yardage with 399, adding four more scores through the air. Fennell achieved a season-high 191 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Valdosta's 58-18 win against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, and contributed a season-high 246 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns in the 52-14 season-opening victory at Jones County. Through five games, Fennell has recorded 1,070 all-purpose yards and is on pace for approximately 1,926 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns for the season.

Senior wide receiver Jamarian Mingo, a Georgia State commit, has quietly had a strong start, securing 16 catches for 357 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns. Mingo has already surpassed his touchdown total from his junior year (five in 12 games) in just five contests this season. At quarterback, senior Tripp Perry has thrown for 650 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception, completing 74.6% of his passes. Sophomore backup LJ Thomas has also performed well, completing 12 of 21 passes for 289 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, demonstrating dual-threat capabilities.

On the defensive side, the Wildcats have allowed just 72 points, averaging 14.4 points per game, during their perfect start. While the 21 points given up against Stockbridge represented a season-high, two of those touchdowns occurred late in the game with a significant lead and a running clock. As a unit, the defense has recorded 40 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 25 quarterback hurries, 13 pass breakups, five interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Key defensive contributors include senior Ja’Davious Lemene, who leads the team with 29 total tackles, including four for loss. Junior defensive lineman Jordin Foster has 22 tackles, a team-best eight tackles for loss, three sacks, and five quarterback hurries. Senior defensive back AJ Hill has also been a significant difference-maker, leading the team with two interceptions and contributing 20 tackles, four tackles for loss, and a sack. Hill has also made an impact on special teams with one kickoff return for a touchdown. Despite these strong individual performances, the team acknowledges that non-region play does not fully indicate the defense's strength, noting moments of missed tackles and blown coverages, particularly among the younger secondary players. Region play is anticipated to be the definitive test for the defense.

The 2026 Wildcats are currently on a record-breaking offensive pace. Averaging 56 points per game, the team is projected to score 784 points over the course of a season that includes a run to the semifinals, which would shatter the 1971 team’s school record by 155 points. The Wildcats have two weeks to prepare for the start of region play.
